The JGS is a secondary school for 10 to 16 year olds in the north of Bremerhaven.  At present, there are approximately 700 pupils as well as around 85 teaching staff.

At our school we prepare our pupils for all secondary school leaving certificates; the extended basic school leaving certificate (Erweiterte Berufsbildungsreife) and the intermediate school leaving certificate (Mittlerer Schulabschluss).  Those wishing to take exams which allow entrance to university (Abitur) leave us after Year 11 (10.Klasse) to continue their studies at a grammar school sixth form or college of further education.

As one of three centres for full inclusion in Bremerhaven, we also extend a warm welcome to pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly in the field of cognition and learning.

We see ourselves as a school, in which foreign languages and science play an important role, but also international partner schools and career guidance.

It is important to us that our pupils have the opportunity to become involved in school life in a variety of ways.  That could be, for example, in our pupilled first aid team, in the school cafeteria, in the library, in the mediation team, in the school website club or in the school band.
